Finland: Orban and Salvini 'want to fracture Europe' - Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron said that Italy's Minister of Interior Matteo Salvini and Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban create a “line of fracture” in the European Union, during a joint press conference with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto in Helsinki, Thursday.
“And I see that today, yes, there is a real line of fracture, I would almost say that this week, it wasn’t me who put it, but Misters [Viktor] Orban and [Matteo] Salvini, explaining who was their enemy”, stated Macron.
“We have to be with the people, and we cannot simply flatter the people with lies, so the term populist is always ambiguous. I spoke about nationalists; there is a nationalist vision and a progressive vision, which are completely opposed to each other on the migratory subject, on the economic or any other subject. There are people who want to fracture Europe, who want from Europe, less European solidarity”, the French President added.
On Wednesday, Macron already placed himself against Orban and Salvini’s views on migration. "I will yield nothing to nationalists and those who advocate hate speech," he said.
