USA: Legendary 1966 Le Mans finalist Ford GT40 set to fetch $12 mil at auction
Legendary American Ford GT40 Mk II that finished third in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans was displayed at the 2018 RM Sotheby's Monterey auction on Wednesday.
The racing car is expected to fetch somewhere between $9 to $12 million (€7,8 to €10 million).
Ian Kelleher, Chief Marketing Officer at RM Sotheby's described the glorious French endurance race of 1966 that brought Ford undoubtful victory.
"This was the third place finisher at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans and that was the year that Ford really actually made a corporate effort and compete with Ferrari and wanted to go all out and they ended up finishing 1, 2, 3 in the most historic finish at Le Mans in history," explained Kelleher.
The 2018 RM Sotheby's Monterey auction runs from August 22 to August 25 at the Monterey Conference Center.
