Russia: Maria Butina ‘a political prisoner’ – Russian Foreign Ministry
Russian Foreign Ministry deputy spokesperson Artyom Kozhin described Maria Butina as “a political prisoner” who is being targeted by US authorities only because of her nationality, speaking during a weekly briefing in Moscow on Thursday.
“Her detention is based only on US domestic and foreign policy motives and that is why she is a political prisoner," he said, adding that the situation shows there is “a witch hunt” towards Russian citizens in the US.
Kozhin also discussed the situation in Syria, stating that the Daraa and Quneitra provinces were almost completely cleared of militants.
