The Finnish government has introduced a four-day border control ahead of the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on June 16, footage from Helsini on Saturday shows.

Known as 'internal' checks, the screening requires travellers from 26 Schengen countries to go through border control and will last from June 13 to June 17.

"We are not performing internal border controls on all passengers but instead targeting checks at passengers based on risk assessment made jointly by all the security authorities," said Samuel Siljanen, head of Finnish Border Guard unit.

Introduced through an initiative by the interior ministry the checks would mostly remain focused on busiest border crossings including Helsinki airport and the ports of Helsinki and Turku.
