UK: ‘Croatia deserved it over 120 minutes’ – Mourinho on dramatic WC semi-final
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho said Croatia deservedly advanced to the World Cup final by defeating England 2-1 after extra time in the semi-final, speaking in Manchester on Wednesday.
"They deserve it over 120 minutes. I think it's incredible achievement for a country where the league is a minor league, where the majority, not only the majority but almost 100 percent of the players - they don't play in Croatia," he said.
"England have a reason to cry but they have also reason to be optimistic. The team improved a lot in relation to previous appearances. The squad is young, majority of the players can play in the next World Cup," Mourinho said.
Croatia defeated England 2-1 at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday and will return to the same venue to take on France in the World Cup final on Sunday, July 15.
