Russia: Iran should have won Portugal clash due to 'attacking decisions' - Coach Queiroz
Iranian national football team manager Carlos Queiroz stated his squad should have won the game because of their competitive attitude and players' mentality, during a press conference in Saransk on Monday.
Despite his begrudging words however, the coach readily congratulated the Portuguese team for their 1-1 draw which qualified them for the round of 16 whilst eliminating Iran.
His Portuguese counterpart Fernando Santos said that if his team has an ambition to continue competing at the World Cup they must be ready to face any opponent, whether host team Russia with their strength of fans behind them or their South American opponents Uruguay, with star players that have played in the European championships.
"The hosts have huge support and they've been doing a very good tournament. Uruguay on the other hand has high quality and top players," he said.
Iran and Portugal drew 1-1 at Saransk's Mordovia Arena on Monday. Portugal will play Uruguay on June 30.
The World Cup is held at 12 stadiums in 11 cities across Russia from June 14 to July 15.
