Luxembourg: NATO Sec. Gen. hopes relations with Russia 'don't spiral out of control'

Luxembourg, Luxembourg City

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that the NATO alliance should "manage a difficult relationship [with] Russia" so tensions "don't spiral out of control", ahead of a meeting of the EU General and Foreign Affairs Councils in Luxembourg on Monday.

Stoltenberg also praised an agreement reached by Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to rename the country the Republic of North Macedonia.

"This is a historic agreement which provides a historic opportunity for the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to become a full member of NATO. And I really urge the people of the country to seize this opportunity and to support the agreement."

After ratification by the Macedonian parliament, the agreement needs to be confirmed via a referendum in September. Following that, it Greek lawmakers will vote on whether to put the law into effect.
