Russia: Panama coach lifts team's spirits after 3:0 Belgium loss

Panama coach Hernan Gomez revealed that he told his players they played with dignity against Belgium, speaking at a post-match press conference in Sochi on Monday. Panama lost to Belgium by a three goal margin.

"I did tell them that they played with dignity and that Belgium didn’t run over them. The result could have been 3-1 or 3-2," said Gomez.

"The football difference between Panama and Belgium also in history is more than 3 goals and I thought what a ridicule it could be if Belgium runs over us," added Gomez.

"No one likes to lose and someone could say that 3 goals are many, but I say that 3 goals with the team we were facing and with the experience of our team, it's a normal result," stated Gomez.

A solid performance by Belgium saw them secure a comfortable 3:0 win over Panama at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi on Monday.

After a goal-less first half, winger Dries Mertens opened the score in the 47th minute, followed by two goals from Romelu Lukaku.

Belgium will play Tunisia on June 23, whereas Panama will meet England on June 24.
