
Afghanistan: Death toll rises to 12 in Jalalabad double attack
At least 12 people have been confirmed dead and more than 30 injured in a coordinated attack at the Department of Education in Jalalabad on Monday.
Police heavily patrolled the attack site as a local hospital swarmed with people who mourned the loss of loved ones, footage showed.
The attack took place at 9:50am local time (05:20 GMT) after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives outside the building. Three gunmen then opened fire and were then shot dead by security forces. Officials confirmed the death of a police officer following the incident.
The blast was huge enough to alert nearby residents and ministry workers.
Nangarhar provincial government spokesperson also said security forces seized a vehicle loaded with explosives in the vicinity after the attack.
No one has claimed responsibility as of yet.
