USA: Protesters slam Israeli violence outside San Francisco Consulate

United States, San Francisco
May 16, 2018 at 07:07 GMT -00:00 · Published

Hundreds gathered in front of the Israeli Consulate General in San Francisco on Tuesday, coinciding with 'Nakba Day' to slam the US's support for Israel and the relocation of its embassy to Jerusalem, and to protest the ongoing violence against Palestinians that saw over 60 protesters killed and 2,700 injured since Monday.

One protester was arrested by police during the rally as a small group of Israeli supporters attended a counter-protest at the same time.

Pro-Palestine protesters read out the names of those killed during the recent unrest and chanted, "Free, free Palestine."

"I am outraged by the illegal state of so-called Israel that is killing and maiming and just performing genocide on my people," Mariam, a pro-Palestine protester said.

Over 60 Palestinians have been killed and 2,700 injured since Monday sparking international outcry.

Nakba Day or "Day of the Catastrophe" refers to the 1948 Palestinian exodus, where an estimated 700,000 Palestinians were expelled to make way for the newly created state of Israel.
