SOT, journalist (Greek): "How do the teams gets motivated, out of love?"

SOT, local resident (Greek): "Yes out of love, we wish it could be Easter every day!"

Residents of the Grecian city of Kalamata put on a breath-taking display of firecrackers and fireworks on Sunday, as part of a traditional Orthodox Easter celebration.

The custom looks back to the 1821 Greek War of Independence. Participants dance while brandishing fireworks in remembrance of when the people of the area used real explosives to drive away the Ottoman forces.

According to one local resident, who spoke about the preparations needed before the celebration, "It requires great effort to do what you saw today. It took a month to make all the preparations."
