USA: Anti-racism campaigners mark 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assasination

A Washington D.C. rally vowed to end alleged systematic racism in the US on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. this Wednesday.

"We remember all too well the day that our nation once again had to face the violence that is racism and it took the life of Martin Luther King Jr.", said one of the headline speakers.

Reverend Andrea R. Alexander hoped MLK, as Martin Luther King is known colloquially, would serve as an inspiration to all Americans to end racism. "What we are seeing now are rallies like this, where millions of people are coming out, hundreds of thousands of people, and it's happening around the country and I do think that we are at the point now where their voice is louder, people really are saying enough is enough," said Reverend Alexander.

The 'A.C.T. to end racism' rally was organised by the National Council of Churches and the interfaith community. Marchers walked from the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral to the National Mall.
