USA: Uber halts self-driving car tests following deadly accident in Arizona
Uber halted all self-driving car tests on Monday, after a pedestrian on a bicycle was struck and killed by one of their self-driving Volvo XC-90's in Tempe, Arizona.
The incident happened at the intersection of Mill Avenue and Curry Road. The victim, a 49-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital where she died from injuries.
"I don't think that the United States' infrastructure is all prepared to handle self-driving cars. It's absurd to think that we were ready for such a technology," commented one of the residents on the crash.
It is considered to be the first pedestrian fatality caused by a self-driving vehicle.
