UK: 'Stop selling weapons to Turkey' - London protesters urge UK to defend people of Afrin

Protesters rallied through London on Saturday, calling upon the British government to defend the people of Afrin in the face of the Turkish-led Operation 'Olive Branch'.

"We want to tell Theresa May stop supporting the Turkish government”, said one protester as another urged, “Please, speak out and tell our government to stop selling weapons to Turkey."

The crowds chanted “where is Jeremy Corbyn?”, “Turkish State is IS” and “wake up, UK” as they marched, carrying banners declaring their solidarity with the people of Afrin.

“The UK is supporting Turkey indirectly. Like Boris Johnson says, ‘Turkey has the right to defend its borders, but it’s not its borders, it’s attacking our land”, claimed one protester, adding “don't sell weapons to Turkish people.”

On January 20 the Turkish president launched the military operation into Syria dubbed 'Olive Branch' targeting Kurdish 'terrorists' across the border.

Turkey views the YPG, which is active in northern Syria, as an extension of the banned militant group the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
