The first reactions of Varsovians near the Polish Parliament in Warsaw, Wednesday, following the statement of the Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, who confirmed that the European Union had invoked Article 7.1 of the Lisbon Treaty against Poland. One resident said she was glad about the decision and "happy we have a chance to get a penalty from Article 7." Another resident criticised the decision, saying "it is definitely wrong, it is unpleasant". "maybe it will be a bucket of cold water, that something is wrong, that they went the wrong way with ideas for governing and reforms," said one of the respondents. The move comes following an overhaul of the Polish judiciary that has spurred a number of protests across Poland, with the European Union issuing warnings that judicial independence is at risk.
