Russia: Putin presents awards for outstanding human rights achievements

SOT, Tatyana Moskalkova, Commissioner for Human Rights (Russian): "We have just conducted large-scale exercises and seminars with all the human rights commissioners from 80 regions. We exchanged opinions and best experiences. We conducted team training. We will support this tradition."

Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the state awards for outstanding achievements in the field of human rights activities in the Kremlin in Moscow on Monday.

Lyudmila Alekseeva, a chairman of the regional public organisation the Moscow Group for the Promotion of the Implementation of the Helsinki Agreements and Vladimir Vavilov, a chairman of the board of the Regional Public Charity Foundation for Children in Republic of Tatarstan, have been both awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of charitable activities.

According to the Russian leader, “our society is becoming more mature and more humane.”

People “share common moral values and attitude to life, a willingness to help those who really need it,” Putin added.

The state awards for achievements in human rights and charitable activities were established by a presidential decree in 2015. Reportedly, the size of the award is 2.5 million rubles (€36,119).
