Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is "destabilising" and "counter-productive" to the resolution of the Palestine-Israel conflict. Putin made the statement at a press conference held alongside his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo on Monday.
"Russia fully supports all decisions, which had been previously made on the matter by the United Nations Security Council. We believe it is counter-productive to make any steps which can pre-determine the outcome of negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis. We believe that such moves are destabilising the situation. They are pre-empting the resolution of the conflict. On the contrary, they provoke a conflict," said Putin.
Putin travelled to Egypt to hold talks on bilateral relations and the security situation in the region. During the trip, Putin was to finalise a deal to build Egypt's first nuclear plant.
