
Russia: Two police killed, 1 wounded in checkpoint shootout
Two police officers were killed and one other wounded during a shootout at a traffic checkpoint in the Nazran district of Russia’s North Caucasus region of Ingushetia on Saturday.The two men tried to secretly attack the control post just before 6 pm Moscow time before being killed in the ensuing gun battle. Police discovered firearms, ammunition and a homemade explosive device packed with projectiles at the scene. A counter terrorism investigation has been launched and the identities of the attackers have not been revealed. Vadim Druzhinin, spokesman of National Anti-Terrorist Committee, said: "The shooting took place between police officers, who controlled the traffic, and perpetrators who made an attempt to secretly approach the post and attack the officers. During the ensuing battle two criminals were shot dead"
