USA: 'Who do you serve?' - BLM protesters confront Missouri governor at fundraiser

United States, St. Louis
October 13, 2017 at 06:35 GMT -00:00 · Published

Scores of 'Black Lives Matter' anti-racism protesters marched on a fundraiser hosted by Governor of Missouri, Eric Greitens, in St. Louis on Thursday, as part of a recent spate of marches over the acquittal of a police officer in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith.

When the protesters arrived at the fundraiser they demanded Greitens come outside. Greitens refused, and the protesters were later moved on by police calmly.

Former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley shot Anthony Lamar Smith to death in 2011, in what he claims was self-defence, believing that the 24-year-old African-American was reaching for a gun in his car.

Whether Smith was in possession of a firearm remained the most controversial element of the case, with opponents arguing that the firearm found in Smith's vehicle was planted by the policeman in the aftermath of the shooting. The judges ruled that "an urban heroin dealer not in possession of a firearm would be an anomaly."
