The trial for two women accused of fatally poisoning the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Kim Jong Nam, with a chemical weapon, kicked off at Malaysia's High Court in Shah Alam, Monday.
The women, Siti Aisyah of Indonesia and Doan Thi Huong of Vietnam, stand accused of killing Kim Jong Nam by smearing VX nerve agent on his face at Kuala Lumpur's airport on February 13; however, they plead not guilty.
The women are the only suspects in custody. According to police, several North Koreans suspected of involvement in the killing of North Korean leader's half-brother left Malaysia on the day of the attack.
They maintain they were duped and thought they were playing a prank. They will face the mandatory death penalty if convicted.
