"The artillery bombardment and mortar fire was dense. We waited for the artillery bombardment. Then the attack of large-calibre machine guns of Jabhat al-Nusra began. But thanks to the skilful actions of our commander, Senior Lieutenant [Alexander] Samoilov, we took repelled the first wave. During the battle, two units of hardware were put out of action."

"At 6 am, September 19, the enemy moved to active offensive operations. During the mortar shelling, two units of military equipment were destroyed. Means of escape were cut off. Also, there were wounded military servicemen who received concussion of different degrees of severity, the servicemen of the Syrian Arab Republic. I gave first aid care. My platoon took up the defence and fired at the superior strength of the enemy. Thanks to the skilful actions of the platoon, and also thanks to the support of the Russian Aerospace Forces, it was possible to preserve the health and life of the servicemen."

The Russian military police in Idlib recalled on Monday being surrounded and repelling an attack by the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group on 19th September.

"We did not have any equipment. Tanks, a fighting vehicle and armoured cars rode toward us. There were only 15 people among us," a Russian military policeman said.

“My platoon took up the defence and fired at the superior strength of the enemy. Thanks to the skilful actions of the platoon, and also thanks to the support of the Russian Aerospace Forces, it was possible to preserve the health and life of the servicemen,” Alexander Samoylov, commander of the Russian military police, recalled.

He was referring to an offensive launched by Jabhat Al-Nusra militants on Tuesday 19th, which penetrated up to 12 kilometres [7.5 miles] behind the Syrian Army’s defence line in the Idlib de-escalation zone. The main goal of which was reportedly to attempt to capture Russian military police units.

As a result, 29 Russian military police personnel were encircled for several hours. A rescue operation was launched by Deputy Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties and Hero of Russia Major General Victor Shuliak. The military police personnel were successfully rescued. Three soldiers were injured. All participants will receive state awards.
