Iraq: Army launches operation to gain control of village outside Tel Afar
Iraqi forces launched an operation to gain control of the village of al-Qasseb Ziraee in rural Tal Afar, northwest Iraq, on Monday.
The Iraqi Army recaptured the centre of Tal Afar following a week-long operation against Islamic State militants (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS), entering in the Ottoman-era citadel after three years of IS control.
The city, known for its remains from the Assyrian period, was partly damaged in december 2015 by militants.
