Four people suspected of stealing a 100 kilogram (220 lbs) gold coin from Berlin's Bode Museum were arrested, reported police in Berlin on Wednesday.

Department Head at the State Police Carsten Pfohl said, "We have thirteen accused people, and, of these thirteen accused we have four warrants of arrest that we carried out today, we arrested these people on short notice from DNA samples."

Senior Public Prosecutor Martina Lamb said that it was taken from the museum to a nearby park and then "the perpetrators should have then fled the scene via the cable, followed the coin and then fled in a car."

Made of pure gold and weighing approximately 100 kg, the coin is adorned with the image of Queen Elizabeth II and the maple leaf of Canada, from where it hails. It was situated on the second floor of the museum since December 2010, on loan from a private owner. Only five of these coins exist, each with a current gold value of about €3.74 million ($4.06 million). It is reportedly the second largest gold coin in the world.
