
France: EP branded 'ridiculous' by Juncker after 30 MEPs attend Malta's EC presidency review

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker labelled the European Parliament as "ridiculous" after only 30 MEPs attended a review of Malta's European Council presidency, in Strasbourg, on Tuesday.
"The Parliament has to respect even the presidencies of smaller countries, which the Parliament is not doing," stressed Juncker, before adding "If Mr Muscat would be Ms Merkel, difficult to imagine, or Mr Macron, easier to imagine, [in English] we would have a full house. The parliament is totally ridiculous."
European Parliament President Antonio Tajani interrupted Juncker's rant urging him to be more respectful adding, "The Commission does not control the Parliament it is the Parliament which is controlling the Commission, please."
Juncker branded the body ridiculous again, before vowing "I will never, I will never again attend meeting of this kind. The Commission is under the control of the Parliament, but the Parliament has to respect even the presidencies of smaller countries, which the Parliament is not doing."
