Germany: Political, not military solutions should be focus – Merkel on NATO
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said “Europeans want to be together with NATO" but should focus on “political solutions as military paths are our last option“ in a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in Berlin, Monday.
She said although there were “issues where we don’t agree with the US“ largely "we want to keep working as we did in the past“.
Iohannis stressed the importance of maintaining positive relations with the US, saying that "the transatlantic relationship is not a politic solution, it is the basis of our civilization."
"The relationship between the EU and the US must be positive," Iohannis added, "there is no other way."
The press conference followed a meeting between the two leaders, where they discussed issues including EU-US relations, Brexit developments and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
