Germany: Hearing of man 'who kicked woman down subway stairs' postponed
The hearing of a man who is accused of pushing a woman down the stairs of Hermannstrasse subway station, was halted before a sentence could be found in Berlin, Thursday.
According to the court spokesperson Lisa Jani, the defence lawyers filed a bias petition presenting a letter supposedly written by one of the jurors concerning youth crime.
"Before the hearing of the accusation, the defence has filed a bias petition and a denial plea against one of the two jurors, a women. The juror has supposedly expressed herself skeptically in a reader's letter concerning those responsible in the fight against youth criminality," explained Jani. She added that it is expected that a conclusion on this matter will be reached "on a second hearing day."
Representative of the district of Neukolln, Christina Schwarzer, was also at the court house. There Schwarzer reiterated her case for installing more CCTV in areas with high crime levels.
A woman reportedly suffered a head laceration and a broken arm when the 28-year-old defendant kicked her down the stairs in October, sparking international outrage.
