Russia: Several protesters detained during Moscow anti-Renovation Law rally
Several activists were detained as scores of protestors rallied in front of the Russian State Duma building in Moscow, Friday, to demonstrate against the so-called 'Renovation Bill' on the demolition of old five-storey buildings, as the body votes on the proposal.
During the rally, the protesters chanted "Shame" and "Hands off Moscow." Among the detained was former leader of the opposition party 'Yabloko' (Russian United Democratic Party 'Yabloko'), Sergei Mitrokhin.
Russian authorities initially planned to destroy 8,000 buildings in Moscow, where 1.6 million people are currently residents, but reduced the scale of the demolition following public opposition to the plan.
