UK: Mancunians attend 'One Love Manchester' concert in tribute to attack victims

United Kingdom, Manchester
June 5, 2017 at 00:16 GMT -00:00 · Published

Thousands attended the 'One Love Manchester' benefit concert at the Old Trafford cricket ground in the northern city on Sunday, in tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena attack. US pop singer Ariana Grande headlined the event, as she returned to Manchaster following the attack that was carried out at her concert in the city on Monday, 22 May.

Many of those present had also been at the Arena on the night of the attack, just two weeks previously. One concert attendee said that while she was "wary and a bit cautious of things" she felt it is important to "get on" and "not let these people ruin your life."

Oasis band member Liam Gallagher made an appearance, along with US singers Katy Perry and Justin Bieber and British bands Take That and Coldplay.

On Monday, 22 May, Salman Ramadan Abedi detonated an explosive device at a pop concert held by Ariana Grande as attendees were leaving the premises. Twenty-two people, many of them children, were killed and many more were injured in the attack.

Police believe that Abedi was the sole assailant in the stadium. He died at the scene of the blast after detonating the explosive device.
