US President Donald Trump said he was "committed" to realising a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine, during a speech in Bethlehem on Tuesday.

Speaking alongside Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Trump said: "I intend to do everything I can to help them achieve that goal. President Abbas assures me he's ready to work toward that goal in good faith. And Prime Minister Netanyahu has promised the same. I look forward to working with these leaders toward a lasting peace."

The US president went on to say: "I also firmly believe that if Israel and the Palestinians can make peace, it will begin a process of peace all throughout the Middle East. And that would be an amazing accomplishment."

Abbas stressed his commitment to cooperating with Trump to secure a peace deal with Israel. He also condemned Monday night's attack in Manchester and extended his condolences to the victims and their families.
