Ecuador: Correa opens museum exhibiting presidential gifts in Quito
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa inaugurated the new Museum of Carondelet, in Quito, Monday, which displays numerous gifts that the president has received in his ten years of ruling the country.
"Here we have a reserved room for the former presidents to bring the gifts they themselves and their families received [during their terms], and for the coming presidents to exhibit theirs," said Correa after the museum opened its doors to tourists and journalists.
The artworks donated by Correa are valued around $2.3 million (€2.09 million) and include Rolex watches that are on display for auction, as well as a bottle of Cuban rum worth $30,000 (€27,325.7), a $85,000 (€77,423) sword and the original presidential band, which is embroidered with real golden strings.
