Russia: Patriarch Kirill meets with Abbas in Moscow

Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill met with President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas, on Friday, in the Russian capital, to speak about relations between their two countries and cooperation in religious and cultural spheres.

Patriarch Kirill noted that regular meetings give him "opportunity to exchange views with you on all issues that represent our common interest".

He added that "the Russian Church takes to heart the issue of peace in the Middle East and solving the Palestinian problem".

Abbas underlined that "we feel that we are real friends and can work together for the benefit of all mankind".

He also noted that "we can say that we have excellent relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, we will develop these relationships and we remain true friends".

On Tuesday Abbas met with President Vladimir Putin to discuss various issues, at the heart of which was the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Abbas stated his hope that Moscow would be involved in the peace process between Israel and Palestine.
