France: Neighbours recount everyday interactions with Champs-Elysees shooter
Neighbours of Karim Cheurfi, the person believed to be responsible for Thursday's shooting in Paris that left one police officer dead, shared their memories of the 39-year-old man, speaking from his street in Chelles on Friday.
One neighbour, Farah Zaoui, said that didn't believe "there is a direct link with Daesh," instead suggesting he had been "radicalised in prison." She went on to describe his family as "discreet people," saying "we all know each other in this neighbourhood, but this family - nobody really knows who they are."
Another neighbour, Stephanie, said her interactions with him were neighbourly, describing how she "sometimes crossed him on the pavement" and "used to greet him."
France was left in turmoil after one police officer was killed and two others injured during a deadly shooting at the Champs-Elysees in central Paris on Thursday evening. Cheurfi was shot and killed by police while reportedly attempting to run away.
