Kyrgyzstan: Moldova granted observer status in Eurasian Economic Union
Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed an agreement to grant Moldova an observer status in the organisation, on Bishkek, Friday.
Before signing the agreement, Putin said that Moscow has decided to expand its cooperation with Kazakhstan on the Baikonur Cosmodrome. "I want to inform Nursultan Abishevich [Nazarbayev] that we made a decision on your proposal and expansion of our cooperation in outer space with the use of Baikonur."
Speaking after Putin, Moldovan President Igor Dodon stated that "today's event is very important; the people of Moldova are very closely following the integration processes that are taking place in EAEU." He added that the agreement does not contradict Moldova's association agreement with the European Union, which has been in force since 2014.
The EAEU is an international integration economic association created on the basis of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space. The association was formed in 2015, and it consists of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
