Bulgaria: Bulgaria mourns victims of St. Pete metro blast at Russian Orthodox Church

A mass to commemorate the victims of Monday's deadly metro blast in St. Petersburg was held at the Saint Nikolay Russian orthodox church in Sofia, Tuesday. Russian Ambassador Anatoly Makarov was in attendance during the service.

Hundreds gathered with flowers mourning the slain and wishing a safe recovery for those still hospitalised. Makarov expressed deep gratitude for the support: "I sincerely thank all who expressed their condolences to our embassy, for all the flowers put on the embassy's fence - ‎it affects us. It shows us that you, Bulgarians are with us" he stated.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova confirmed that 14 people died with 49 remaining in hospitals after an unidentified explosive device went off between the Institute of Technology and Sennaya Ploschad metro stations at 14:40 local time (11:40 GMT) on Monday. A second unexploded bomb was reportedly deactivated at Ploschad Vostaniya station.

Russia's Investigative Committee opened a criminal investigation into the incident and a three-day mourning period has been declared by St. Petersburg authorities, beginning on Tuesday.
