UK: Westminster on lockdown after car and knife attack leaves at least 1 dead
Westminster was on lockdown on Wednesday after a police officer was stabbed and a car reportedly drove into a crowd of people, in two serious incidents. St Thomas’ hospital has reported at least one woman as dead.
The alleged assailant in the stabbing was shot by police, according to the latest reports, as he tried to enter the Houses of Parliament.
Up to 12 people were reportedly injured in the car incident on Westminster Bridge, which is adjacent to the Houses of Parliament. Police are reporting that they are considering both incidents as terrorist attacks and the Westminster area has been evacuated.
The Houses of Commons, which earlier hosted Prime Minister's Questions, has now been suspended with MPs being told to wait in the chamber while the incident was resolved. Prime Minister Theresa May was ushered out of the palace by armed police.
