Belgium: 15,000 public sector workers demand new budget, improved working conditions
Some 15,000 public sector workers took to the streets of Brussels, Tuesday, to protest against the government's inability to agree a new budget for the sector, while demanding better working conditions.
President of General Federation of Belgian Labour Issam Benali explained that the people are demonstrating because "the government doesn't want to put any money in this sector. They don't want to fund new jobs; they don't want to fund new salaries."
Benali's thoughts were shared by Secretary of the LBC-NVK trade union Mark Selleslach, who said that "the government is talking, talking but there is no perspective, they don't engage for a budget."
Last November, some 20,000 public sector workers demonstrated against the government's planned austerity measures in the Belgian capital.
