
Italy: Al-Sarraj meets Gentiloni in Rome
Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj arrived on an official visit to Rome, Monday, to take part in the WEU-Africa contact group meeting.
During the meeting, the Italian and Libyan leaders, as well as Italy's Interior Minister Marco Minniti discussed Libya being an access route for migrants and refugees arriving in Europe.
Last year the number of migrants from North Africa, aiming to reach Italy on smuggler's boats peaked at 171,000. Many of the attempts ended in tragedy as around 4,000 people drowned in the Meditteranean Sea in 2016.
