France: Cavusoglu stokes fire between Turkey and Netherlands ahead of Metz rally

Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister (Turkish): "First of all, there will be a response to this. We will not swallow it. An apology wouldn't be enough. We have already started to respond. The Netherlands Ambassador left the country for a planned trip, we have asked him not to come back. There are other steps we will take which we have already started to plan. For sure we will make the move. We will make exceeding moves for sure. Then the Netherlands will make an apology to Turkey. We will take those steps until they make the apology because there is no part to defend here. I told them decently, to their foreign minister, "if it is going to be a problem for you, I would come after your elections", he responded as, "I cannot guarantee after the elections period." Then I told him to ask his prime minister. Before he responded to my request, their prime minister, Rutte, said, "Cavusoglu cannot come neither before nor after the elections", in arrogance. He added, "if he comes he would see just the tulips and museum but not the Turks. Would there be more fascistic perception than this? Would there be more violent attitude to the human rights and freedoms than this? Would there be more defiant reply than this? I have made this offer decently to help them, as they have surrendered by Wilderson. I don't have to come before the elections, he said "no, we are principally against your visit, even after the elections". The mentality is different here. The issue is not the elections here. Therefore, neither the present government nor the liberal and social democrat parties have no difference than Wilders. Where is Europe going? Europe is heading to a cliff. Europe is going to times before the Second World War. When we sound this they feel so sad. But it is for real."

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu vowed that Turkey will respond to the Netherlands' decision to bar him from landing in Rotterdam where he was due to hold a campaign rally, ahead of a speech in Metz on Sunday.

Cavusoglu arrived in Metz to hold a rally, where he said that Turkey will respond imminently and will not simply "swallow" how they have been treated by the Netherlands. Turkish Foreign Minister stated that the country had already started to kick a response into action.

Speaking to the press before a campaign rally in front of an estimated 800 supporters, Cavusoglu reported how the Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, had said, "Cavusoglu cannot come neither before nor after the elections". He added how Rutte had allegedly said, "if he comes he would see just the tulips and museum but not the Turks."

The minister pronounced the Netherlands' actions a "violent attitude" to "human rights" and "freedoms", and said that, "Europe is heading to a cliff. Europe is going to times before the Second World War."

Following the decision from Prime Minister Mark Rutte's government to bar Cavusoglu, Turkish Minister for Family and Social Policy, Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya was sent in his stead from Germany. She was blocked from speaking at the rally and was later escorted back to Germany by police. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has compared the Dutch administration to Nazis for their refusal to host Turkish diplomats, threatening diplomatic and economic measures.
