Head of Russia's Main Operational Department of the General Staff, Sergei Rudskoi, said the cessation of hostilities had been successfully maintained across Syria, while more and more units of the moderate opposition had been joining the ceasefire, during a press briefing in Moscow on Friday.

"During the last week an agreement on the accession to the reconciliation process was signed with representatives of 47 settlements and the total number [of signatories] reached 1,338. The number of moderate opposition units that declared their adherence to the ceasefire regime increased to 199," Rudskoi stated.

He went on to say that the Syrian government continued their offensive and extended the security zone around Palmyra after taking control of the city. Russian servicemen from the International Anti-mine Center already arrived in Syria to demine historical monuments and social facilities in the city. "We call all interested parties to take part in the demining operation of the world cultural monuments in Palmyra," Rudskoi added.
