
Belgium: She Decides gig raises nearly $200 mln for family planning
Nations banded together to pledge nearly $200 million (€190m) for family planning on Thursday, at the She Decides conference at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, to counterbalance US President Donald Trump's ban on US funding for organisations that give information on abortions.
Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Development and Cooperation, Alexander De Croo announced, "the numbers, pledged for €181 million ($190 million) to make sure that women and girls get equal opportunities and can make their own decisions on their future."
Speakers including Dutch Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen, and CEO and President of Guttmacher Institute, Ann Stars, were among those who backed the fundraising programme.
"There is no north, there is no south, it is a globe and we are here to bring the voices of those across the globe", International Professional Practices Framework Director General, Tewodros Melesse said.
