USA: Trump's denunciations of anti-Semitism are 'never good enough' - Spicer
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer gave an overview of memos related to US President Donald Trump's executive orders on immigration and border security from Washington DC, Tuesday.
Spicer said that a new memo given to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “outlines the steps that DHS will take to secure the nation's southern border, prevent further illegal immigration and to repatriate illegal immigrants swiftly, consistently and humanely.”
The press secretary went on to say that even though Trump plans to introduce a second executive order on immigration, “we feel confident that we are still going to prevail” in the courts with the so-called Muslim ban.
During the press conference, Spicer attacked the Anne Frank Center for its negative statement about Trump’s disavowal of anti-Semitism, saying “It's ironic that no matter how many times he talks about this, that it's never good enough,” adding that “I saw that statement. I wish that they had praised the president for his leadership in this area.”
Anne Frank Center’s Executive Director Steven Goldstein reacted to Trump’s speech on antisemitism, delivered on Tuesday, writing that “the President’s sudden acknowledgement is a Band-Aid on the cancer of Antisemitism [sic] that has infected his own Administration,” calling the president’s words “a pathetic asterisk of condescension after weeks in which he and his staff have committed grotesque acts and omissions reflecting Antisemitism.”
