Malaysia: Protesters rally in support of stronger Shariah courts
Activists held a rally in Kuala Lumpur, Saturday, to show their support for proposed amendments to the criminal jurisdiction act tabled by Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party president Abdul Hadi Awang. The amendments would reportedly increase the severity of punishments Shariah criminal courts could administer.
Up to 100,000 people are said to have taken part in the rally.
A counter-protest of several hundred people reportedly took place at a nearby location.
