France: Paris rallies against Trump’s 'Muslim ban'

France, Paris
February 4, 2017 at 20:42 GMT +00:00 · Published

Hundreds of anti-Trump protesters rallied through central Paris in defiance of US President Donald Trump's travel ban on nationals of seven Muslim-majority countries.

Demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the immediate removal of Trump from office and for the US to allow those banned back into the country, as they marched from Trocadero to Paris' Military School complex.

One US resident now living in Paris, Katherine Cook, said, "I don't think he is representative of what America is all about" and added "he is not my president", and another explained that people will "stand up" and "fight back" even from overseas.

Trump's ban affects citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Trump has maintained that the restrictions should not be dubbed a 'Muslim ban,' despite it only being brought into effect for these seven countries, all of which have a majority Muslim population.

The travel restrictions will be implemented for 90 days for all people hailing from these seven countries, including legal permanent residents of the US. Additionally, there has been a 120 day ban on refugee admissions, and an indefinite halting of Syrian refugee admissions.

Seattle Federal Judge, James L. Robart, issued a temporary nationwide ruling against US President Donald Trump's travel ban on nationals of seven Muslim-majority countries, in Seattle on Friday.
