Germany: Police confirm arrest of 36yo Tunisian alleged of recruiting for IS
The Frankfurt General Prosecution Office confirmed in a press conference in Wiesbaden, Wednesday, that they had arrested a 36-year-old Tunisian citizen on suspicions he had recruited supporters for the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly known as ISIS/ISIL).
"During our investigation this morning, the employees of the Hesse state crime agency searched 54 apartments in Hesse state, offices and two mosques. Most of them - 33 - were searched in total, were located in Frankfurt," the prosecution office's spokesperson Alexander Badle stated.
Badle added that "the main suspect is a 36-year-old Tunisian citizen who is suspected to have worked, since August 2015, for the foreign terrorist organisation calling itself the Islamic State," with the goal "to carry out a terror attack in the Federal Republic of Germany. As far as we know, those plans were in very early stages, no specific target was yet chosen."
