USA: Trump's executive order not a 'travel ban' says Spicer

Journalist (English): "I understand your point of view, but the president [Donald Trump] himself called it a ban."

Sean Spicer, White House Press Secretary (English): "I understand."

Journalist (English): "Is he confused? Or are you confused?"

Sean Spicer, White House Press Secretary (English): "No, I am not confused. I think that the words that are being used to describe it derived from what the media is calling this. He has been very clear that it's extreme vetting."

Sean Spicer, White House Press Secretary (English): "No, I think there is a big difference. Think about the process that was at work here. The Department of Justice, Office of Legal Compliance vetted the executive order, sent it back to us saying it was completely compliant. Then the acting Attorney-General [Sally Yates] goes out and says, 'I am not going to enforce it'. You tell me how that jives because at the end of the day if the acting Attorney-General has an office under her jurisdiction that says that something is legal and compliant, and then she gets out there and says, 'I am not going to enforce it'. That doesn't sound like an attorney-general that is upholding the duties she swore to uphold." *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer denied that the US President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration that bars travellers from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the US, was a 'travel ban', at a press conference in Washington DC, Tuesday.

During the press conference, Spicer stressed that Trump's executive order on immigration "is not a Muslim ban. It's not a travel ban. It's a vetting system to keep America safe." When challenged by a journalist who argued that Trump himself has called it a ban, the White House press secretary went on to accuse the media in labelling it "a ban," which he claimed to be inaccurate.

Commenting on Trump's dismissal of the US Attorney-General, Sally Yates, on Monday, after she refused to enforce his executive order on immigration, Spicer argued that the US top law enforcement officer was "rightfully removed" for "defiantly" denying to execute the "lawful order."

Trump signed an executive order on January 27 which bans citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days, suspends the US refugee program for 120 days and indefinitely blocks Syrian refugees from entering the US.

Trump has maintained that the restrictions should not be dubbed a 'Muslim ban,' despite it only being brought into effect for these seven countries, all of which have a majority Muslim population, and exempting non-Muslim citizens of the seven countries.
