Argentina: 1941 swimmer attempt World Record for most people floating in a line

Argentina, Laguna de Epecuen
January 30, 2017 at 08:53 GMT +00:00 · Published

A group of around 1941 people attempted to claim the title for the most people in a floating line at Laguna de Epecuen, outside Buenos Aires Province, Sunday.

The event was part of the 15th Provincial Festival of Thermal Tourism and an effort to break the record, set in 2014 at Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County, Taiwan, by the Harley Owners Group Taiwan Chapter. According to the Guinness World Record website, 634 people participated in that float.

However, according to organisers, it would take around two months to get the new attempt approved and to determine whether the record was in fact broken.

Each floater, who took part in Sunday morning's challenge, was given a numbered bib and video-recorded while entering the beach area through an official gateway. Once in the water, participants were asked to float atop and hold hands with those floating next to them. Given that in 2014 the floaters used tubes or rafts they brought along, this time the participants floated naturally due to salt-saturated waters of the lake.
