Argentina: Thousands commemorate prosecutor Alberto Nisman as investigation continues
Thousands of people gathered in Buenos Aires, Wednesday to commemorate Argentinian terrorism prosecutor Alberto Nisman, who was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head in his home two years ago.
Supporters staged a rally on Plaza de Mayo where they demanded a fair investigation into Nisman's death. His wife, Sandra Arroyo Salgado and their daughter lit a candle in his memory.
At the time of his death, Nisman was investigating the bombing of the Argentine Jewish Mutual Aid Society (AMIA) that left 85 dead in 1994. The lawyer was reportedly about to release a 300-page complaint accusing former Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and ex-Foreign Minister Hector Timerman of shielding the bombing's Iranian suspects.
The prosecutor was found dead with a bullet wound to his head and a 22-calibre handgun lying next to him in his Buenos Aires apartment. Officials say there was no evidence that anyone else had been involved in the death and concluded it was self-inflicted. The Nisman family launched a private investigation in March 2015, which concluded that the death was, in fact, a homicide.
