
Syria: Russian servicemen awarded as Admiral Kuznetsov departs conflict zone
Commander of Russia's Group of Forces in Syria Colonel-General Andrei Kartapolov and Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian armed forces Ali Abdullah Ayyoub visited the Russian warships Admiral Kuznetsov and Pyotr Velikiy that departed from Syria on Friday.
They congratulated the Russian servicemen on the successful completion of their operation in Syria and on the return to their location of permanent deployment in Severomorsk.
The Syrian commander awarded the crew members of both ships with special medals for their tour of duty.
The Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy were the first vessels to leave Syria after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial withdrawal of Russia's military presence from the Middle Eastern country.
