The lead solo singer of the Alexandrov Ensemble, Vadim Ananyev, who was supposed to travel to Syria on board the Russian military Tu-154 that crashed over the Black Sea earlier in the day, spoke about the incident in an exclusive interview with RT in Moscow, Sunday.

According to Ananyev, he was supposed to join his colleagues of the Alexandrov Ensemble, also known as the Red Army Choir, on a trip to Latakia, but he had to stay home to help his wife after their third child was born.

He said that "my child was recently born, he is just several months old" adding that "My wife just cannot handle them, one should be taken to the kindergarten, another [brought back] from school, one sleeps and needs to be waken up. And we have no nanny."

The Tu-154 aircraft was bound for Hmeimim airbase, in Syria's Latakia province, carrying the official army choir of the Russian armed forces, the Alexandrov Ensemble. The musicians on board were due to take part in a New Year's performance. The plane crashed just 20 minutes after take-off, from Sochi, early on Sunday.

The Tu-154 plane was carrying 92 people, including 84 passengers and eight crew members. According to the MoD, no survivors have been found at the crash site, while ten bodies have been recovered so far.
