Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo said that “Europe must united in the fight against terrorism” the day after the attack on the Berlin Christmas market by a lorry belong to a Polish transport company, which left 12 people dead and 48 injured, Tuesday, Warsaw.

The prime minister stated that it was “with great pain and sorrow we have obtained the information about the first victim of this heinous act of violence, who turned out to be our compatriot, a Polish citizen.” She added: “I will also be talking to the Chancellor by telephone. Europe must unite in the fight against terrorism.”

The incident happened at around 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT), when a large Scania lorry rammed into a Christmas market close to the Kurfuerstendamm Boulevard. The police have arrested the suspected driver of the lorry.

Earlier on Tuesday, Berlin police stated on its Twitter account that the arrested suspect denies the offence. Latest reports, however, have suggested that the police arrested the wrong man and that the actual perpetrator is still on the run.
